my favorite kind of green tea...

I just love this tea green transparent glass moving like ripples next to the olive green. I flame treated the filligree, a process which is delightfully unpredictable and resulted in an interesting range of colors from green to orange.

Here is Petite Poupee de Papier (Little Paper Doll)  wearing it.

Welcome our new model... what shall we name her?

Susan and I had a photo shoot with our new super model. We want to be able to give a sense of scale along with a close-up of the pieces. I think our paper doll is rockin' this piece with a vintage pocket knife. Can't wait to see what we come up with using these new giant discs I just worked up.

Onyx and cast iron skillets...

My grandmothers made the best liver and onions, tomato pudding, and fried corned bread. She taught me how to sew, loved onyx, and me. She was an ace saleswoman, running the children's department of a local store,  a trait I wish she had passed on to me.

I had a pair of her onyx earrings, so I put together this necklace in her honor. Here's to you, Patti Eugenia Dale.

'M' is for the moon that hits our eyes in a big pizza pie...

I worked with borosilicate glass this afternoon and am looking forward to seeing how the swirling otherworldly colors and depth it produces will look in tablet shape. I finished up to find that my September Miche releases had arrived!  Oh, but now I have to wait a whole month for more. Here are my two favorites.Love the chain handle on the little butternut hip bag and I fell in love with the feathered looking fabric of the signature "M" when I was in the prototype room at the Miche conference. It  inspired my black bean pizza for dinner tonight. It is presently in the oven having been covered with chopped onions and roasted corn.I have taken to googling the paltry ingredients left in our larder in an effort to never have to go to the grocery store again. I think my days of being able to pull this off are numbered. (Here's a picture of our dinner hot out of the oven.)

A couple of days ago, John and I were able to get away to the beach. We watched the midnight moon's light show for well over an hour. I tried to snap a picture and this is the best I could do. Nothing could have matched what we saw anyway.  For a while I thought little glow in the dark fairies were dancing on the crests of the waves.

The latest!

I bought a collection of knives on Ebay and was so disappointed when they arrived. They looked like they had done some serious time in the bottom of a tackle box. Included in the lot were extra blades and a set of pearl casings from a broken pocketknife. How happy am I? Put this puppy ( or should I say 'pony') on right away.

Glass Half-Vintage!

Susan Meyer and I landed on a name for our collection that we both love: Glass Half-Vintage.  Below is a sample of what we've been up to, a necklace designed from a watch pin that was in Susan's family.

I continue to be polyvorous. If you haven't tried Polyvore, beware: very addicting, especially if you liked paperdolls as a child.

Lutheran world tour...

I pulled out this vintage suitcase that belonged to John's godmother. I love the color and like to use it to give my living room a sense of travel, but this time I was wanting it to reconfigure into a jewelry display for the new vintage line. Lo and behold, the oh-so-cool luggage tag is for a Hawaiian tour. Do I hear "Aloha" in our future?

Pearly gates and everything ducky...

Yesterday Susan Meyer and I worked up some fun pieces using our vintage treasures. One of the things I appreciate about teaching art is that children learn to redirect when things go wrong. Starting with odd bits and pieces pushes me in the same way, unlocking some creativity. Sifting through the 'junk drawer' tray I decided to start with an old enamelled religious bracelet that I fell in love with. It paired nicely with this crucifix and the blue and green ring reminded me of 'the whole world.'  I had a tiny medallion of Mary, so it dangles from the clasp along with a 'pearl of great price.'  Did you know that the apostle John describes heaven's gates as one giant pearl? I can't even imagine.

Susan designed a fun little bracelet using vintage plastic chain. Today, I followed her lead with this gift I am giving to an expectant mother so she can remember 'everything is going to be just ducky.'

Inspiration color...

I figured it out. I'm a color-o-holic. I was an oil painting student when I first happened upon glass rods in jars at a bead shop. It was the palette that got me. I thought "I don't know what that is, but I have to do it." Yesterday I was working on my torch and my mind kept circling back to the new fall line of Miche purses. It's the colors! That's what has hooked me on Miche!

I pulled rods that approximated some of the new colors and here is what I came up with:

Junk drawer bling...

I bought a collection of pocket knives off of the internet. When they arrived they looked like someone strained them out of a flooded tackle box. This one cleaned up pretty nicely. The necklace reminds me of my 'pocket mischief' series, a little junk drawer, a little bling.

one if by sea...

I'm loving making these tassels with a dash of bling. These are headed north to a shop in Massachusetts. Don't they look like they could get there by ocean, catching the current and drifting in the waves until they wash up onto the shore?
